My burgers have always been like little rocks that could probably break your a bone if you dropped one on your foot! They were very tasty but way too hard. Then I went to my lovely friend’s house and her burgers were soft and moist and really delicious so she gave me her recipe. I have to admit (and I have told her this!) her recipe somehow didn’t work for me so I amended it slightly and now I am pro burger maker! Even The Boy – who is ultra fussy – eats these and declared them “yummy'”.
1 pack mince (I have used beef, turkey, lamb and chicken so far and all work well)
1 potato (cooked and mashed)
Any finely chopped or pureed vegetables (I always use onion and carrot but try to add in anything else I have)
1 finely grated apple
1 egg (or egg replacer if there’s an allergy)
Squeeze of ketchup, Tomato purée or pasta sauce
Seasoning as you wish
Mix all the ingredients together and form into burger shapes. Put on a baking sheet / foil and bake for 20-25 mins at 190 degrees C.
(This photo is of beef burgers and I will add in other types as and when I make them)
Hi there. Loving this site- thank you! What size pack of mince do you use in this recipe? Going to try a lamb version!
Hi Kyla. I use a 500g pack when I make these. They are yummy with lamb as they are even more moist. Hope you enjoy and let me know how they are. Glad you like the site!! Thanks Francesca
this looks fab! Dumb question but do u cook mince first before adding to the mix for baking? Thanks loads!x
Hi thanks so much. No – the mince is raw when added to the other ingredients. Let me know how you get on! Thanks Francesca
Fantastic. Our 8 month loved them (as did the rest of the family). We used Turkey…..will definitely be making them again. Thanks for the recipe
Hi Dave – so pleased they were a success. They are delicious with turkey aren’t they? Thanks for your comment – Francesca
Your recipes are a Great help. Now, can I make these up and then freeze ?
Many thanks
Hi yes I always freeze them. I wrap each one individually in clingfilm so I can just take out as many as I need as and when. Thanks so much
Hi I havent made these yet but looking forward to doing so soon. As they contain meat, potato and veg, do you serve them alone or do you put anything on the side?
Hi I usually do serve them with some extra veg on the side and if my son is also having them I make some homemade chips too as he’s very skinny so I try to bulk his meals up whenever I can. But they are fine on their own.
Out of curiosity, how many does this recipe make. I used two potatoes as they were small and 500g of mince and ended up with 15 burgers. I’m not sure if I made them too small and should have reduced the cooking time… Just trying to get an idea. I’ll definitely be making these again either way as they are so easy!
Do you freeze before putting in the oven or cook them all in oven and then freeze (mince cooked)
HI I always freeze cooked as its then much easier to defrost them quickly after than have to defrost and cook.
Oh wow! These are amazing! I used the recipe to make meatballs. I baked them in the oven at 190C for 10 mins and then poured over a tonne of your tomato and vegetable sauce and baked for a further 15 mins. They came out so well. And to my COMPLETE AMAZEMENT my son not only ate them … but asked for more! I cannot tell you how many meatball recipes I have tried. Everything has come out heavy and dry. These were melt in the mouth delicious. Thank you so much and please do keep up the excellent work. PS when I am feeling brave I am going to try these again adding mashed up black beans. It could be a horror show but your website inspires me to try new things 😉
mmmm yummy! They sound amazing as meatballs – I will have to try them! Thanks 🙂
These burgers were enjoyed by my 13 month old today. Thanks for the tasty healthy quick and easy recipes. I am surprised how much salt and sugar there is in the recipes in the Annabel Karmel Easy Finger Foods book and lots of fried food too.
