The Boy lost his first tooth today. It’s been wobbly since May and he’s been so upset that it wasn’t falling out when all his friends were losing teeth left, right and centre. Today it finally fell out and he was so excited that I wanted to make him an after school treat. Clearly something loaded with sugar isn’t the best reward for losing a tooth but obviously something made of vegetables just wouldn’t cut it. So, using my new fabulous Star Wars cookie cutters, I made my little lad some yummy sugar (and egg) free biscuits (along with some animal ones for Little Lady).
I found a recipe online for “Tiny Teddy Biscuits” which are a homemade version of a well loved Australian kids biscuit. I take absolutely no credit at all for this recipe as, apart from halving the quantities and using my hands instead of a mixer, I followed it pretty much to the letter. I have showed you below the exact quantities I used and how I went about making them.
Remember as these biscuits have honey in them they aren’t suitable for under 1’s.
30g butter
60ml honey
75g plain flour
40g self raising flour
Pinch of bicarbonate soda
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2tsp cocoa powder (for the chocolate biscuits only)
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl with your hands until you form a dough. If you are making chocolate biscuits then also add in the cocoa powder and knead it well with your hands to make sure it is fully spread. I actually divided my dough in half and added 1tsp cocoa powder to one half only. Let the dough rest at room temperature for 10 minutes.
Roll the dough on a floured surface until it is about 4mm thick.
Using your cookie cutters cut out shapes and place onto a lined baking tray or a non stick baking liner.
Bake in the oven on 180 degrees C for 5-7 minutes until slightly golden and firm to touch. Leave to cool and crisp up then enjoy!
Hi, I just made it and my daughter loved. Thank you for sharing the recipe. Just one question- for how long can I storage the cookies?
Thank you
